Slow Down to Understand: My Experience with the Punkt MP02

Hi everyone, my name is Maira, I’m 28 years old and I work as a designer in a studio based in Padua.
We specialize in office furniture, managing each project through every stage—from the initial briefing to final delivery, including 3D models, technical drawings, and renderings.
In my free time, I enjoy walking around the city and capturing everyday moments through photography.
I prefer quiet evenings, in the company of a few people, so I can connect in a more authentic and meaningful way.
This natural inclination toward calm and slowness—so different from the fast pace of everyday life—is what led me to join the Digital Detox Festival, where I had the pleasure of meeting the Punkt team.
During the event, I spoke with Federica, who explained the brand’s vision and invited me to take part in the challenge.
I accepted with enthusiasm.
Unboxing: Minimalism and Intention
The MP-02 packaging is essential and carefully designed, with an illustration of the phone printed on the top.
I find it useful that the packaging clearly shows what’s inside—it immediately communicates the nature of the product and the care required in handling it.
When opening the box, I appreciated the way the device is presented: the packaging design gently guides the phone toward the user.
The pastel blue color is delicate and calming.
Overall, both the packaging and the device communicate a sense of cleanliness, order, and precision.

First Contact with the Device
My first tactile impression was very positive.
The slightly textured surface is unusual and pleasant. I also noticed an excellent balance in weight—a detail often overlooked, but essential for ergonomics.
Among the devices I’ve used, only some iPhone models have given me a similar feeling.
The unlock button positioned on the top is also very convenient.
When I brought it to the design studio, my colleagues particularly appreciated its minimalist aesthetic.
Personally, I love the round buttons—they reminded me of the ET 33 calculator by Dieter Rams for Braun.
Like Rams, Punkt removes the unnecessary, creating an object that is intuitive, simple, and functional.
Interface: Simplicity and Friction
The interface fully reflects the brand’s values: minimalism, clarity, and essentiality.
One of the first things I noticed was the absence of a visible battery percentage, which only appears when the battery is very low.
Unexpectedly, this made me feel slightly uncomfortable, prompting me to reflect on my need for control.
I even felt a bit of anxiety at the thought of not always being reachable.
The menu is clear, intuitive, and essential—nothing feels unnecessary.
Another interesting aspect is the slowness of use.
For someone used to speed, it can feel frustrating. I experienced a kind of resistance, as if the phone was forcing me to slow down.
And precisely because of this, it became a moment of reflection.

Usage: Truly Disconnecting
I chose to use the MP-02 over a weekend, with the goal of fully disconnecting.
I was with friends, and the device proved to be a valuable ally in avoiding constant scrolling.
My goal was simple: to remain reachable without being distracted.
And it worked.
I did encounter some practical limitations.
The Pigeon app (based on Signal) wasn’t usable, since none of my contacts use it.
Additionally, some everyday situations highlight the limitations—for example, a restaurant where the menu was only accessible via QR code.
The lack of a camera is also noticeable.
Before this experience, I hadn’t fully realized how important the mere presence of a phone is to me.
It’s not just about usage—it’s about a sense of security.
Knowing I can communicate makes me feel at ease.
A New Perspective
The MP-02 allowed me to experience what I would call “slow digital.”
Slowness is no longer a technological limitation, but an invitation to awareness.
I can compare this experience to a journey.
When you move slowly, every step gains meaning.
For me, Punkt was exactly this: a bridge between past and present.
A tool that doesn’t just serve communication, but reflection.
It helped me become aware of the rhythm of technology and its impact on my daily life.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to live this experience.
