The Punkt. Urban Mobility project: a collaboration with three of Europe’s leading design schools

Featuring the RCA (London), ECAL (Lausanne) and Design Academy Eindhoven

The Punkt. Urban Mobility project has involved three top design schools: the RCA in London, Lausanne’s ECAL and Design Academy Eindhoven. The brief was to create a consumer electronics product that enhances personal mobility in the urban environment by making electric-assisted cycling easier and more accessible. The design was required to be specific to where the three Schools are situated. And London, Lausanne and Eindhoven are three very different cities, in terms of both topography and culture.

The collaboration project has been driven by Petter Neby, Punkt.’s founder and president, and John Tree, freelance designer and office manager at the Jasper Morrison Office for Design in London. Key input was also provided by Lowie Vermeersch, included in Automobile Magazine in their “World’s 25 Most Influential Car Designers”, London-based Dan Hill, of Arup, who gave essential advice on integrated transport systems. Towards the end of the design process, Paolo Bertoni, CEO at Torino Crea model-makers, visited each of the schools in person to advise the students on how to brief his company for the prototype-creation process.

Three fascinating products have been designed and prototypes will be unveiled to the public at Salone del Mobile in Milan on the April the 4th at 11am – photos will be revealed simultaneously on this web page. Visitors to Salone will be invited to vote for their favourite via Instagram or Twitter, with the winning design being announced on April 10th
